Lionsgate has debuted the trailer for the latest Paul Haggis film, The Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe, Liam Neeson, and Elizabeth Banks – and it’s packed with action and runaway rescues.
Paul Haggis is back in the director’s chair with his upcoming thriller The Next Three Days.
The first trailer shows a balanced attack of action and drama with a star-studded cast of Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, and Olivia Wilde.
Trailer:
Anything with Elizabeth Banks has my attention, but I’m especially intrigued considering the Russell Crowe vehicle lies somewhere between The Fugitive and Taken. This remake of French film Pour Elles explores a man’s attempt to break his wife out of prison – because the wife claims she’s been falsely detained for a murder she did not commit. Needless to say, the man will do anything to get her out.
Conviction, starring Hilary Swank and arriving later this year, explores a similar premise. Swank becomes a lawyer with the sole purpose of defending her imprisoned brother (Sam Rockwell) in order to set him free. However, you can expect The Next Three Days to be more fast-paced. So, when it comes to this year’s best false imprisonment movie, you’ll get to choose legal action and beatdown action.

Liam Neeson’s role in the trailer is significant, but he could have a very small part in the final product. Either way, he resorts to his go-to roll – small but foreboding with a big impact. Noticeably missing from the trailer is Olivia Wilde who is always enjoyable to watch.
The trailer for The Next Three Days makes Paul Haggis’ directorial follow-up to In The Valley of Elah look promising.
Crowe has found a comfort zone in action thrillers. My only concern is derived from a single moment in the trailer, when Crowe goes to a gun shop and, since he hasn’t the slightest clue how to kill a man, asks where the bullets go. I wonder why any human being would ask such a question.
